Cooking or Baking again!

I've collected recipes from my teen years, imagining that I would naturally step into mother mode one day.   Nope!  That didn't happen.  Cooking or baking always seemed a chore.  I didn't enjoy it.

Now when I see something on Pinterest and it looks interesting, I wonder if Stephen would like it.  Probably he would, as everything that I have ever made has been good for him.  One would think that this would spur me on to perform miracles in the kitchen but, lo and behold, the lazy gene is far more dominant.

I do console myself that it isn't all about being lazy.  I just don't particularly like cooking or baking.

I made some bread pudding recently.  First time ever and it's super easy so that accounts for why I don't mind making it.  Stephen loves it and thinks I'm a genius now.  hahahahahahaha!

And I always add extra almond chips on top.

And I love packing Malay food instead of cooking!
Beef rendang, paru-paru, mixed veggies and salted egg!  Heaven!  Comfort food!  So blessed that this stall is just a block away from me!

Stephen cooking?

It's a little known fact but Stephen can cook!

Almost four years ago when I first arrived to Singapore, I caught the most awful cough and flu.  Maybe it was the Singapore germs giving me a good welcome and helping me to build up immunities because since then, I've been fine.

It was during this time that I found out that Stephen could cook and tasty food too.

It's always nice to know that he can come up with something without recipes or experience or anything.

When I think of that time when I was so ill, lying down and praying I would feel well soon, I also think of Stephen pottering around the kitchen and making pancakes for breakfast and a most delicious soup for lunch/dinner.

I must pujuk him to repeat that performance!  Hahahahahaha!

Kitchen layout

Image from WWW

I've always wondered if this was designed by someone who actually cooks because I've seen so many kitchens where this is not featured.  Is it something from a home designer's mind or is this the product of someone who did actual O&M studies about this kitchen work triangle?

My grandma and mom made wonderful meals and never once did I hear them speak about the layout of the kitchen.  I think it's safe to say that there was nary a complaint from them because they were only concerned with being able to put food on the table.  It probably never occurred to them that setting up the kitchen space in an effective way would speed up the cooking/preparation process.

Where I am now, the refrigetor, stove and sink are all arranged in one straight line.  Often I wondered if there would be a huge difference if I had the above layout.

I've come to the conclusion that if we don't think about it, it doesn't affect us.  I am also of the opinion that as long as things are where they should be, then one can be just as efficient in any kitchen after getting used to it.

If someone were to ask me what I would like to see incorporated in my kitchen, I'd say it would have to be a simple island cum breakfast counter.

Yup, I'm still dreaming...

                                   ... dreams can come true!
